Read her interview here:

What do you like most about working at Skelton Orthodontics?
My coworkers are like family & I enjoy watching Dr. Skelton create beautiful smiles every day. It’s an amazing process!

What can you be caught doing on the weekends?
Hanging out with my husband, Garrett and daughter, Gracelynn on our farm.

Where did you go on your favorite vacation? What did you do?
My husband and I went to Amelia Island, where some of my family lives. We actually stayed in the Ritz Carlton and it was an awesome experience.

What is one thing you want every person to know about his or her smile?
There is so much in your smile. You can flash those pearly whites and make anyone’s day just a smidge brighter.

Do you have any phobias, or are you afraid of anything?
I’ve always been afraid of horses growing up, but I’ve actually grown out of that. I’m not fond of the usual creepy crawlers like snakes and spiders.

Have you ever had orthodontic treatment?
I’ve never had braces as a child, but I always have been fascinated by them and wanted to have them myself. Hopefully I will get to experience them first hand myself.

What is your favorite movie of all time? How many times do you think you've seen it?
My favorite movie of all time is “Fried Green Tomatoes.” I’ve probably watched it at least 100 times.

Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names?
My husband and I are waiting for my little girl to turn two before we get a dog.

Thanks for a great interview, Madison!

Appreciation

Orthodontic Staff Appreciation Week

June 4-8 is Orthodontic Staff Appreciation Week!

This year, Dr. Skelton asks that you help her in celebrating the WONDERFUL team we have at the office. She loves her Skelton Orthodontics team and knows you do too! Dr. Skelton is taking the time June 4-8 to be sure they know just how special and important each of them are to the Skelton Orthodontics team.

You can get to know our staff better by visiting our staff page on our website. You’ll get to learn all about their families, hobbies, and why they love working here at Skelton Orthodontics! Also, each of our team members has a blog all about them and the fun answers to all of our questions.

As this week progresses, we ask that you help Dr. Skelton in honoring and loving her team. If you are in the office, be sure to tell them just how GREAT they are and why they are important to you. Let's make them feel special this week.

invisalign

Invisalign: How does it work?

Are you curious about Invisalign®? At Skelton Orthodontics, we proudly offer these invisible aligners that don’t use brackets or wires. If you’re looking for a more subtle treatment option, Invisalign may be right for you.

How does it work?

At your appointment, we’ll make a set of aligners customized to your teeth using 3D computer imaging technology. You will wear your aligners for approximately two weeks before switching them out for the next set.

During your day, feel free to remove the aligners when you eat and as you brush and floss your teeth.  As you replace each set, your teeth will slightly move each day until they reach the final position we prescribe.

Throughout your treatment, you’ll visit our office roughly every six weeks to ensure that treatment is progressing. Most people wear their aligners for six to 18 months, but treatment time varies depending on the individual.

Want to know more? Check out this video from Invisalign®!

If you or your child needs braces, contact us today to schedule an appointment. You may be a candidate for Invisalign®!

smile in pink

Smile in Pink with us!

Dr. Aimee Skelton and her team support Breast Cancer Awareness Month every October with their promotion, Smile in Pink!

How does it work?

Dr. Skelton will donate $1 for each patient who chooses pink bands or power chains on their braces during October appointments. Then, the patient's picture is posted to an album on Facebook so everyone can see who Smiles in Pink! Each patient also signs a certificate showing their support. Those certificates are displayed in the office for the entire month!

Last year we raised over $200 for Breast Cancer Awareness! Show your support this year and Smile in Pink!

common orthodontic problems

Common Orthodontic Problems

Many common orthodontic problems include crowding, spacing, underbites, overbites, and other uncomfortable issues. A bad bite can make it difficult to speak, cause teeth and enamel to wear down prematurely, and increase your chances of teeth and jaw injuries. If you notice teeth and jaw bone misalignment, you may need orthodontic treatment.

In honor of National Orthodontic Health Month this October, take the time to assess your family’s smile. Here are some common orthodontic problems.

Crowding

Some teeth don’t have enough room to develop along the gum line, leading to crowding. It may be difficult to reach every area of the tooth’s surface, making it hard to clean teeth thoroughly.

Spacing

Spacing issues can stem from a cosmetic issue or missing teeth and may make it difficult to chew. In addition, spacing problems in one area can also lead to crowding in another.

Overbite

When the top-front teeth extend over the lower-front teeth, overbites occur. This can cause the bottom-front teeth to bite into the roof of the mouth.

Underbite

An underbite happens when the bottom jaw moves outward, causing the lower-front teeth to extend in front of the upper-front teeth.

Openbite

An openbite occurs when there is no overlap between the top- and bottom-front teeth. This can impact your ability to chew. In young children, tongue thrusting or thumb sucking may be the culprits.

Crossbite

Crossbites show when the upper teeth fall inside the lower teeth. Crossbites may cause misaligned jaw growth.

If you or your child experiences any of these issues, contact us today to schedule a FREE initial consultation! Also, check out our Facebook page for more National Orthodontic Health Month facts!

braces

Braces & Your Child: What’s the Best Age?

What’s the best age for your child to get braces? As parents, deciding when to take your child to the orthodontist can be a big decision.

What if their teeth straighten over time? Or if I wait to take them in, will it make problems worse?

To take the guess work out of when you should schedule an appointment, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends taking your child in to the orthodontist by age 7. At this age, your child’s teeth and bone structure are still developing, so it’s a good time for us to evaluate the spacing or crowding that may cause permanent teeth to come in crooked.

If your child is 7 or older and has crooked teeth, gaps between the teeth, an overbite, or an underbite, contact us to schedule an appointment. Your child may not need to start orthodontic treatment right away, but early exams allow us to monitor your child’s development over time. This way, we can ensure a healthy, straight smile that continues into adulthood.

Ready to schedule?

Contact us today to schedule a FREE initial consultation for your child. We can assess your child’s bite and set them up with a beautiful smile for life!
